With the discovery of the structure of the DNA molecule, a new era began in the history of medicine, biology and science in general. Impact of this discovery on all of humanity inspired us to create this playground in the Znak residential complex in Izhevsk.
A white DNA molecule in the form of two intertwined metal ribbons encircles the entire playground. A recognizable image made the Molecule an art object, but the authors also retained the functional component - children will find there a swing, a climbing wall, a slide, cable tunnels and hammocks. There is also a huge sandy lake in front of the main element.
All the elements are aimed at the development of the child's brain through a variety of movements during the play. The complex is located on artificially created hills, which opened even more interesting opportunities for games.
The area of 465 m2 includes: 1 play complex with a slide and swings, 1 sandbox, shock-absorbing coating, landscape elements.

The game complex consists of three towers, a suspended tunnel and two slides. The tallest of the towers reaches six meters. The towers are fenced with a transparent metal mesh, and, climbing up the 3D cable maze, children can admire the panorama of the surroundings from a gradually changing perspective.
The two end towers are crowned with rings located in different angles. The rings seem to be suspended in the air and resemble elliptical orbits of rotation of cosmic bodies, symbolizing the versatility of this movement. To create the "crowns" of the towers, a thermal method of bending wood was used.
The playground is located on a flat area without vegetation, which further enhances the resemblance to a station erected on some distant uninhabited planet.
The 372 m2 site includes: 1 play complex with 2 slides, 1 playful object, shock-absorbing surfaces

According to legend, an old lighthouse on a distant ocean island was once hit by a violent storm. Together, children built scaffolding around the lighthouse, as well as suspension bridges to neighboring islands, so that it would be easier for the children to get from their homes to the construction site.
The central architectural landmark of the play ground is a ten-meter playful art object with a slide, an observation deck and “scaffolding”. In order to convey the image of an old, battered lighthouse, a facing with trees of natural geometry is used. Nine-meter tree trunks with branches are selected so that they can go around the circumference of the lighthouse, preserving its silhouette and forming an integral shape. In the skin of the lighthouse, the trees are intertwined in three layers. The final location of each tree was determined already on the site, and as a result, each branch found its place in a complex interweaving of unpredictable shapes!
This unique solution has no analogues in the world and gives the image of the lighthouse an artistic value, mystery, and adds many options for interpreting the created image.
In addition to the architectural dominant, the play hub "Old Lighthouse" combines several zones: a sand island, a climbing island and an island of movement. They are separated by paths and connected by hanging tunnels. Together, play elements provide a full range of various types of movement, contributing to the harmonious physical and brain development.
Of the many options for conveying the image of a dragon, we chose the image of the entire body, placing playful equipment in a volumetric form: 3D labyrinths, a slide, climbing hammocks, swings. Partially, a skeleton of the dragon is covered with “wool”. We used logs of different length to make it look wild and authentic. Part of the frame is exposed, which makes it possible for adults to watch children playing inside the structure.
Away from the dragon is an amphitheater, a resting place for children̆ and parents̆. In addition, there is an opportunity to hide under the wing of a dragon from the sun and rain. The first wing of the dragon is designed as a canopy, and the second as a climbing frame. We have built a sand crater for young children to support fine motor skills development.
As conceived by the “Bureau Chekhardsa”, when approaching the site, at first only playful hills are visible. This enhances the effect of the sudden appearance of a dragon between them. The hills are truly playable, you can not only run on them, but also hide in passages or crawl through tunnels.
The height of the tower (5.5 meters) is determined by the game content. There are two slides outside, and ladders made of hammocks and ropes inside. Playful routes are designed in such a way that only those children who will not be afraid to slide down can get on each of the slides.
The site is located in the park near the Central House of Culture of Ishimbay, you can approach it from the main square. The space is divided into two age zones. An area for toddlers with sand filling, swings and a slide, located closer to the square and benches. Tower, its central landmark and art-object, and climbing frames for older children are in the depths, out of sight. The play space is noticeable from the square, but it does not shout and does not claim to be the central point of attraction. Being harmoniously set within the surrounding buildings and the square park, it calmly and with dignity invites you to play.

The natural play space constructed by Chekharda in the picturesque central square of the ancient town of Gavrilov Posad, Ivanov Region, has become a favourite meeting point and recreational area for the whole city and is a vivid example of the masterful integration of modern wooden architecture into a historic setting.
A cocoon tower is the central object of the playground. It features Chekharda’s signature woven pattern, has a metal slide attached to it, and is set on two meter high supporting poles. A system of ropes, fixed to the vertical poles, substitute conventional steps, inspiring kids to forge their own path to the top. A climbing complex «Windfall» complements the cocoon-tower and consists of giant, nearly gargantuan, trunks placed over the ground as if they were blown down by the wind.
A cocoon tower, twisted vertical labyrinths, swings, a path of stumps, and a climbing complex «Windfall» are all set against the backdrop of a bell tower, market stalls, and historic settlement of Ivan the Terrible’s reign.
The playground was constructed as part of the Ministry of Construction’s program «Public space improvement of small and historic cities».

Being passed through the special artistic vision of the "Chekharda Bureau", an image of the train is conveyed through a symphony of forms, materials, and specific motor activity. Thanks to this, it was possible to convey an image of the railway without using specific elements of the train. The theme of the playground predetermined the choice of the dominating material. The relief of the site is formed by mighty arcs and metal supports. For the sake of preserving the accuracy of a railroad image, the "Chekharda Bureau" abstained from a high-rise architectural landmark, and has concentrated on horizontal motion. Rhythmical swinging of rope nets and rope tunnel conveys a sense of a train motion.
The dominant shapes of the site are circles and cylinders. There are many of them in any steam locomotive: round wheels, cylindrical steam boiler, pistons and a smoke box. This is how a cylindrical climbing tunnel appeared in the main playful structure. The main playful structure itself is elongated, like a locomotive, and also resembles its shape in outline.
Rails are inconceivable without stations. A sand station really resembles a station. And the forest clearing is full of swings with supports made of trees of natural shapes. Even houses of different styles and époques around playground serve as scenery for an exciting journey.

The main architectural landmark of the playground is a giant lizard. The 6-meter tower is toped with the head of a lizard, the rope bridges are the winding body and tail, and the abutments made of geometrically unaltered trees resemble paws. The image indirect, interpreted by the Chekharda’s artistic vision. As you enter the site, it is not immediately clear that this is a lizard bent into a circle. For some, the construction will remind you of a cave with paths leading to it, for others - a real mountain that needs to be conquered (but only from the inside, no climbing outside). Whoever the child sees on the playground, an interesting adventure awaits him!
The wooden component of the "Lizard" is very beautiful. The head is made of larch poles, the abutments of rope bridges and swings are made of geometrically unchanged oak. Natural shapes and textures harmonize the urban surroundings, allowing you to feel closer to nature, even in a metropolis playground built ... on the roof of the parking lot.

This playground, as well as the residential complex itself are located in a park and were built on the former territory of the factory “Hammer and Sickle”. The kids’ zone, Magic Islands, stretches along the river bank and mimics the flow of the river. Walking paths divide the playground into two sectors, - “Undulating Banks” (1-7 years old), and “Oak Tree” (7-12 years old).
The main landmark of the playground as well as of the whole park is a 7 meter high oak tower with ropes and a twisting slide inside. It is surrounded with trampolines, a nest-swing, climbing system, and a kids early development zone.
The upper level with its climbing tower and swings is for elementary school children. The sandbox in the younger kids’ zone is equipped with an escalator, sand pouring system, balance boards, and very wild stumps. The stumps are spread throughout the terraces and form a jumping path which leads down to the river.
"Spiders" is a natural gaming hub, which will be interesting for kids, teenagers and adults. It is split into several age zones. “Sandy Shore” is an area for toddlers to develop fine motor skills with a filling station and a huge sandbox, which is easy to get into ... by sliding down a slide. "Climbing thickets" - an area for children 3-7 years old, where you can train balance, strength and dexterity on twists and rope climbing frames. “The Swinging Reed” is an area for children under 12 years old with different types of swings and jumping platforms.
The center of gravity of the entire site is an art object and play complex "Spiders" with two spider nests-towers, rope tunnels and a huge slide, which can only be reached by nets, rope or 3D mazes. From the high towers you can see the entire site, and in the evenings it becomes a meeting point for teenagers. Different types of wood were used for the towers, and their combination gives the art object a fabulous flair. The "Spiders" playground includes a large lawn where you can play outdoor games or get together in a large company. The site is surrounded by green hills. They not only create additional opportunities for play, but also make the space complete and truly natural.
Located among the trees, the playground is a little away from the main walking route of the park. It has its own small art object - a shaggy Pine cone made of intertwined logs, as well as an area for kids, a slide and a windbreak for older children. The silhouette of the bent metal supports of a windbreak resembles the roofs of wooden houses. The houses did not appear here by chance: in the middle of the 19th century, this place was a block of low-rise buildings of old Nizhny Novgorod. Also, the red color on the site is not accidental: it is an accent for the entire square. The addition of this color connects the playground with the surrounding space and gives it a festive look.
The created play space looks very impressive in conjunction with the bright graffiti by Dmitry Askee, which are in the background. The formed ensemble combines nature, architecture and art and refers to the history of the city.

Once upon a time the whole world order obeyed the forces of nature and people believed in the spirits of wind, water, mountains, thunder and lightning. This was also true of Scandinavia and Russia. The playground “Stumps” is inspired by both Scandinavian mythology and Russian fairy tales of forest spirits, walking trees, silvans, mysterious swamp inhabitants, and mumiy trolls.
The playground consists of four areas: “Windfall”, - a climbing sector with natural tree trunks and rope nets, an exact reproduction of a real windfall; “Stump clearing”, - the central section of the playground which is reminiscent of a forest meadow covered with snags, stumps, and tree roots; “Sand World”, - inclusive play zone; and “Stones’ Glade”, - a section which imitates the experience of walking along a mountain ridge, designed for our youngest visitors.
The Big Stump is an 8 m high observation tower, with a multilevel climbing labyrinth inside, and three exits – to the slide, to the tunnel, and to the observation tower. The Small Stump is its grandson, 4.5 m high stuffed with climbing systems, climbing walls, and a recreation podium with benches shaped as leaves.
The main architectural feature of the site is the usage of trees of unaltered natural geometry for most of the playful objects. The central element of the playground is a climbing frame with metal arches, where children and adolescents can test their strength and agility. Two giraffe-shaped hammocks are suitable for both climbing and relaxation. The playground features a sand play area for toddlers and groups of natural hemp steps for balance and leaping.

Residents of this complex wanted their playground to awake associations with a thorny learning path. Walking through which their child could overcome different obstacles, experience a variety of emotions, stop and contemplate for a while, get insight into their own experience, go through ups and downs, and finally reach their goal. That’s how the knowledge path came into being.
Going through it as a child, as well as a grown up, you face various challenges; difficult rope crossings, unstable wooden walkways, and knotty nets, contemplate in a giant hammock, come down to earth from one of the towers. But the real award is offered to those who reach the end, - a magnificent metal slide!
The whole construction is light and elegant. A hanging wooden deck, interrupted with obstacles below and above, varies in its height and width and is fixed to metal supports. Nonlinear, twisted metal arches add still more interest to the path. Reaching for the sky, grand supports bring us back to the historic playgrounds of the early space age.
The playground is linked by pedestrian paths on both sides. Hence it has a distinct transit character. Such a playing space, instead of drawing a child’s attention to a single point , encourages them to engage in a short game that leads them through the playground and further along the boulevard.
That is why the playground consists of three distinct sections and a connecting path: a sand factory, play complex, and climbing area. All playing areas are accessible from both sides of the boulevard.
This playground is rich with elements for developing the fine motor skills of toddlers, as well as attractions for older kids. Metal is used extensively throughout its construction to ensure its resistance to vandalism.
